Arts Fest Illuminates Two Old Treasures
A Queen Zip Manifesto
Believe it or not, compared to the average Penn State weekend arts fest just happens to be an event where everybody kicks it up a notch (or five). Well I was clearly no exception to this unspoken rule made by the majority of people who had the pleasure of attending the festival this past weekend. However, during the extreme hustle and bustle of this annual pastime I really became aware of a few of Penn State’s hidden treasures. And I am not talking about the Joe Paterno statue people (even though he has a place in everyone’s heart). I am thinking more along the lines of two underground, underrated gems that have always electrified the excitement of the scene and guaranteed everyone in attendance one inevitable outcome--sheer bliss.
Treasure number one would have to be the infamous Prospect Paradise. To the unfamiliar outsider this street name has no meaning. However, to the people that have grown up around the dynasty-- located on one particular special block-- it means the world. The boys who have resided in this home over the years have always gone above and beyond the average college male in order to ensure that their friends and community seek the pleasure they deserve. Not only has this haven been the scene of countless exhiliartating late night dance parties and pregame gatherings but it also has defied the amateur college party scene and has really sought to rise to the occasion on several occasions.
In the past my friends have managed to create a rave enhanced with flowing and bubbling foam, a night thrill involving two unexpected and generously paid for female dancers ( obviously not my favorite event), and even an all-inclusive excursion celebration where Panama City was brought to State College. There is no question about it, if you want to avoid the bars, this house is the place to be; and of course it was the place to be all this weekend as well . So thank you guys for continuing to prove that being absolutely ridiculous is always better than being absolutely boring.
Treasure number two is no other than the finest bar in State College, also known as the Brewery. Bunny Stardust introduced me to the place and I have to applaud his taste. There is something about the dark lighting and the graffiti decor covering the interior of this sanctuary that really adds to the intensity and causes all of the visitors to be stimulated by all they encounter. Truth be told, you will find an extreme amount of diverse people in this place. The crowd is full of people from punk rock wanna be’s and generic college kids, to forty year- old men and woman in the midst of a mid-life crisis; but then again this is one of its most endearing qualities making this place unique.
When I arrived this past weekend I was greeted by friendly and wise bar tenders, live music, an outstanding array of beers, and a variety of extremely delicious shots that really revitalize you! Two of my favorite shots featured cocoa pebbles and dragon fire and they both proved to be true to their claim when they sent me and my friends on a trip out of normalcy into a state of euphoria characterized by an intense high full of dancing and romancing to say the least. Point blank ladies and gentlemen, this place has got the medicine that everybody wants. So do yourself a favor the next time you are in an hour long line at Indigo and head to the Brewery.
